World Professional Powerboat Association (WPPA)
An agreement was signed between the UIM President Dr. Raffaele Chiulli and the new WPPA President His Excellence Saif Al Ketbi in the presence of the former WPPA President and President of the UAE Marine Sports Federation Dr. Saeed Hareb, Dr. Khalid Al Zahed, the WPPA Vice President, Mohammed Hareb, UIM Council Member and Victory Team driver Arif Al Zafein at the Burj Al Arab. In December of 2012.
“I am convinced that our sport needs partnerships at this high professional level. Dubai has always been a key partner in the growth and development of water sports and this agreement shows the commitment from both sides to further strengthen our cooperation”. Dr. Raffaele Chiulli said after signing the agreement.
The agreement foresees that the role of the WPPA will be to act as promoter and exclusive right holder for the popular UIM XCAT World Powerboat Series.
The WPPA will also cooperate with the world governing body, the UIM, in other key areas to ensure a bright future of the sport. “This is a significant agreement and we will ensure that our sport will continue to ensure a pathway for the development of young drivers and talents” the UIM President remarked. “The UIM General Assembly held in Corfu, Greece was crucial to outline the main terms of cooperation contained in this agreement” he also pointed out. The UIM under the leadership of Dr. Chiulli when he was elected to the top post ensured that the WPPA got the recognition it deserved. The UIM XCAT World Series today became very popular among powerboat drivers from across the globe.
“We have signed an agreement for three years with the option to extend it further,” said H.E. Saif Al Ketbi, the WPPA President. “This is a brand new start for us and it’s a very important moment for the future of our sport. The UIM XCAT World Series are getting bigger and better and we all are going to benefit from this agreement” H.E. Al Ketbi added.
The opening round of the 2013 UIM XCAT World Series was held at the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club (ADIMSC) on January 9-10.
